  11.        Known problem with the product and ways to work around them.

  13.           +o The Printer Manager is not able to determine if a user
  14.             is a "privileged" user and always prompt for a root
  15.             password when adding or deleting a printer.  Exceptions
  16.             are if the Printer Manager is run by the root user or
  17.             if there is no root password for the system.

  19.           +o The Printer Manager does not accept control characters
  20.             in the password field when it prompts for a password.

  22.           +o When printing using the bsd print sub system a print
  23.             clients hostname is limited to 32 bytes.

  25.           +o When _m_a_n -_t is used to print a man page and the print
  26.             server is running Impressario 1.2 the following message
  27.             will be logged in /var/spool/lp/log: _U_n_k_n_o_w_n _c_o_m_m_a_n_d
  28.             _l_i_n_e _o_p_t_i_o_n :: -_m_a_n_p_a_g_e.  The man page will still be
  29.             printed.  Impressario 2.0 (and higher) supports the
  30.             -manpage option.

  32.           +o The _P_r_i_n_t_P_a_n_e_l (_g_l_p) program accepts filenames that
  33.             begin with a '$' sign. Typically these filenames
  34.             reference environment variables (e.g. $HOME/foo).
  35.             However, if a filename is specified that begins with a
  36.             '$' and does not have a directory component (e.g. $foo)
  37.             and there is no file or environment variable
  38.             corresponding to the filename and the program was
  39.             launched from a shell window, the _P_r_i_n_t_P_a_n_e_l program
  40.             will hang. The same is true of filenames beginning with
  41.             the '#' character. Note that this only effects
  42.             _P_r_i_n_t_P_a_n_e_l programs launched from a shell window and
  43.             not from the File Manager or desktop. The occurrence of
  44.             these types of filenames is rare and the need to print
  45.             such files is even more rare.  There are two
  46.             workarounds.  First, if you are printing a filename
  47.             that begins with '$' or '#', escape the character
  48.             (.e.g. $foo should be specified as \$foo). The second
  49.             workaround concerns dealing with a hung _P_r_i_n_t_P_a_n_e_l. If
  50.             the program hangs you can simply kill it from the shell
  51.             in which it was invoked.

  53.           +o If two _P_r_i_n_t_P_a_n_e_l programs request a printer specific
  54.             options panel for the same printer at the same time, it
  55.             is possible for one options panel to appear over one
  56.             _P_r_i_n_t_P_a_n_e_l while being managed by the other _P_r_i_n_t_P_a_n_e_l.
  57.             The effect of this is that when one _P_r_i_n_t_P_a_n_e_l is
  58.             iconified, the options panel for the other _P_r_i_n_t_P_a_n_e_l

  79.             printer specific options panel is displayed by the
  80.             _P_r_i_n_t_P_a_n_e_l program or the _P_r_i_n_t_e_r _M_a_n_a_g_e_r.  This does
  81.             not effect the operation of the options panel. The
  82.             problem exists only with the options panels provided by
  83.             certain third party printer products.
